Guiding Lights is our annual in-school participation project that aims to bring a unique dimension to Illuminated, the National Remembrance Garden’s Winter Light Trail.
Under 10s | 2 - 6 & 9 - 13 November 2026
This in-school theatre experience and workshop will help young learners to explore remembrance, friendship and the power of sharing stories. Students will enjoy a 20-minute assembly performance documenting young Penny's journey with Ernest, Keeper of Remembrance, followed by art and drama workshops where they'll add their handprint to a collective artwork and create their own "memory suitcase".
Secondary | Autumn Term 2026
This part of the Guiding Lights project invites young people to design artwork that will be painted onto mirrors and hung throughout the Illuminated trail. Through workshops exploring what remembrance means to them, service, sacrifice and hopes for the future, students will create designs that catch the light and reflect those who walk beneath them.
