Visitor Announcement

The Armed Forces Memorial, and its immediate surroundings, will be closed to visitors from 10am on Friday 8 August to 5pm on Sunday 17 August to allow us to prepare to host the national VJ Day 80 commemorations. The rest of the Arboretum's 150-acres will remain open to visitors as normal. We are sorry for any inconvenience this might cause and appreciate your understanding during this time.

Second World War Rationing

Before the start of the Second World War, Britain imported around two-thirds of its food. After war was declared in September 1939 the British Government had to reduce the amount of imported food as German submarines began attacking British supply ships. Music and Remembrance

Every day at 11am, we hold a short Act of Remembrance in our Chapel which includes the playing of a piece of music known as The Last Post. This piece, normally performed on a bugle or trumpet, has become the most well known piece of music associated with Remembrance. This activity gives you the chance to compose your own musical call to signal a message.
