Visiting Us Summer 2020

We are pleased to advise that the Arboretum is open. To ensure that you get the most from your forthcoming visit, whilst exploring our site safely, we will be introducing a number of new measures which apply to all visitors:

  • Essential pre-booked vehicle parking to guarantee entry.

  • Only our grounds, Millennium Chapel and Far East Prisoners of War building will be open.

  • Implementing measures to help our visitors and team observe social distancing.

  • Implementing an enhanced cleaning regime.

We are limiting the number of people able to access our site each day. It is essential that visitors book in a vehicle before they visit via our online booking platform. Our daily parking charge of £4 applies to all cars and will be taken at the time of booking.  Motorcycles / cycles / visitors arriving on foot will be not be charged but are still required to book a ticket online.
If you are arriving on site by car/motorcycle you will require one parking ticket per vehicle. This ticket will permit each individual in your vehicle to enter our site. If your party is split between multiple vehicles each vehicle will require a ticket. Individuals and cyclists will require individual tickets.

A very limited number of spaces will be made available. Tickets are released on Thursdays in two week blocks. Vehicles unable to present a booking confirmation will be unable to park and members of your party will not be able to gain entry to site. Only visitors parking in our car park will be permitted into our grounds.

To help our team manage the arrival of visitors to our site, you will be asked to select an arrival time slot when booking your parking ticket, either 10am, 11am, 12pm, 2pm or 3pm. You will be able to enter our site at any point after your time slot begins, and remain in our grounds until they close at 5pm.

Annual pass holders, including Gold Friends, are also required to book a ticket. Parking pass holders should email to request the discount code to use online. Please ensure that upon arrival you have both your booking confirmation and parking pass ready to present to our parking attendant.

We are currently operating with a very small part of our team; with this in mind, tickets can only be booked online. Unfortunately we are currently unable to change booking dates and times or cancel tickets so please only book when you are sure you can attend. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience whilst we have a limited team on site.

Visitors are able to book parking tickets on behalf of others if required. Please do ensure however that those visiting are made aware of the booking confirmation number, and the name under which the booking was made. Please also share, either digitally or verbally, the confirmation information that will be sent across to you which will help with their arrival.

Until further notice to enter the grounds of the Arboretum you will be required to pre-book tickets

Although we are eager to welcome you back to the Arboretum, please do not visit if you are required to remain in isolation due to current Government guidelines.

Your tickets will be checked upon arrival at the car park by a member of our team who will direct you to a parking space. The gates of our car park will remain closed until shortly before our site opens at 10am. We ask that you do not arrive before your allotted time in order to assist with parking arrangements. Please do not park or wait on the road outside the Arboretum as this poses a hazard and has the potential to cause an accident. Please ensure you have your confirmation ready to present before you enter our car park.

Vehicles unable to present a booking confirmation will be unable to park and you will not be able to gain entry to site

  • All visitors, including dog walkers, are required to enter our site through the Remembrance Centre.
Once you have entered our site the grounds will be open until 5pm.

  • The Land Train is operating a limited schedule, bookable at the Welcome Desk upon arrival at the Arboretum. Capacity is limited, and an increased cleaning schedule between departures has been introduced.

  • Our exhibitions are currently closed. Our daily activities including tours, talks and walks are also not running. We are also currently unable to hire wheelchairs and scooters.  We will look to reintroduce these activities when it is permissible and safe to do so.

  • From Saturday 1 August we will be opening our main restaurant to visitors between 12noon and 4pm for pre-booked dining. We have a smaller capacity than normal due to social distancing, so please ensure you speak to our food services team to book your table as your arrive at the Arboretum, if you would like to dine inside. We are unable to take bookings in advance of your visit.

Our current carry out offer, including breakfast snacks from 10am, will still be available with seating provided in Heroes’ Square. Our event building, Aspects, will also be offering hot drinks and treats from 11am each day. The BBQ service will finish on Friday 31 July.

  • Our Shop is also open.  From Friday 24 July visitors browsing and purchasing items from our shop will be required to wear a face covering in line with current government legislation. We’ll be using signage to show when you’ll need to wear your mask with us.

We hope that you enjoy exploring our grounds. To help you get the most from your visit and to keep you and others safe we ask that you:

• Respect the rules and guidance given
• Observe social distancing measures by Keeping 2m away from other visitors
• Wait for others to leave memorials before approaching
• Follow signs and suggested pathways
• Wash your hands frequently.

The Armed Forces Memorial will be open though some additional measures have been put into place to regulate the numbers of people visiting the memorial.
