A Spotlight On: The Ice Maiden Challenge

In January 2018 the British Army record breaking Ice Maiden team became the first all female team to ski across Antarctica using muscle power alone.

Ice Maiden Sandy Hennis will talk about skiing the 1700km in temperatures as low as -40ºC, the physical and mental challenges and how teamwork enabled their success.

Sandy joined the Royal Signals straight from school in 2000. She served as both a soldier and officer in the Regular Army and is now an officer with the Army Reserve. Her 19 year career saw her serve across the globe including operational tours in Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan. During her career Sandy was introduced to adventurous training, developing from a novice to become an instructor in climbing, kayaking, mountaineering and skiing. She has led expeditions worldwide and in 2018 she was part of the Ice Maiden team, the first all female team to ski across Antarctica using muscle power alone.
