D-Day: Vessels of Victory

Seventy five years since D-Day, we are remembering those who served by creating a growing artistic tribute, D-Day: Vessels of Victory. Throughout the summer 6939 individually decorated wooden vessels, each one representing an allied vessel involved in Operation Neptune, will be decorated and placed in the grounds of the Arboretum. Each decorated vessel will be a symbol of Remembrance, a tribute to the Allied and Commonwealth contribution which helped change the course of the Second World War.

Individual Vessels can be purchased for a suggested donation of £2 each from the Welcome Desk in the Remembrance Centre. An activity station where you can decorate your vessel with a design of your choice with; pens, stamps and stencils is located in Heroes' Square.

Alternatively, you can download an outline of the vessel below, decorate and send to: Vessels of Victory, National Memorial Arboretum, Croxall Road, Alrewas, Staffordshire, DE13 7AR.

Once your Vessel has been decorated and returned to us a member of our team will varnish it and place it within the installation which will be located in the Merchant Navy Wood.

You will be able to decorate vessels at the Arboretum from 25 May. The installation will remain be in place until Armistice Day.

We are here to keep stories alive, we can only do this with your support. All proceeds from this activity will be used to grow and develop the Arboretum  ensuring that we are able to provide a beautiful and befitting space where our visitors can explore, discover and remember.
