Children’s meal boxes are sold on site and picnic areas are also available. We offer fully accessible baby change facilities. Please note that children's bikes, scooters and roller blades are not allowed in the Arboretum grounds.
The Stick Man Trail
Young visitors will love our 2019 outdoor adventure trail. Pick up a Free trail map from our Welcome Desk and join Julia Donaldson’s Stick Man* on his journey back to the family tree, while exploring the Arboretum grounds and woods.
Please note this trail will be taking place outdoors on our Arboretum grounds, we recommend that all participants wear appropriate footwear and clothing, and may not be suitable for pushchairs.

Children's Play Areas
Our Children's Sensory Play Garden featuring tunnels, climbing globe, bannister slides and time circle is located close to the Remembrance Centre. A second children's play area is located in the Children's Wood onsite.
Landscapes of Life Exhibition
Our Landscapes of Life Exhibition includes interactive elements for younger visitors to enjoy including a 'magical' pathway of leaves which reveals poppies beneath as you walk though, and a hands-on exhibit for children to design their own memorial landscape with benches, trees, animals and symbols. Top Tip... Pond dipping equipment is available for hire on selected days throughout the year but we welcome visitors with their own equipment daily. Children should be supervised by a responsible adult at all times.
Little Saplings Sensory Play
Our Little Saplings Sensory Play and story telling is designed to help our youngest visitors enjoy the Arboretum and heighten their development and enjoyment of learning. Sounds, colours, textures and other hands-on elements will add to the week’s chosen story.
Following story time, children and accompanying adults will be given complete free-reign of our expanding and evolving array of sensory toys with the objective of encouraging creativity and multi-sensory experiences. All this takes place in our beautiful surroundings and with full access to our excellent restaurant and on-site facilities.
Each session will run on the first Friday of the month.
Time: 10am and 11.30am
Price: £2.50 per child/ sapling. For babies, toddlers and preschool children.
Please note all children must be supervised by an accompanying parent/carer/guardian at all times.
