Where our Nation remembers

BECOME A VOLUNTEER

The Arboretum has 150 volunteers who between them give over 3,000 hours a month of their time. All have different backgrounds and skills, and play an invaluable part in running the Arboretum.

The following volunteer opportunities are now available at the Arboretum:

Front of House Volunteer
Those joining the Arboretum’s team of enthusiastic and dedicated Front of House Volunteers have the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of activities, including meeting & greeting, reception duties, leading walks and will give presentations. Volunteers also act as guides, steward at special events, assist the press, buggy drive and look after performers on site.  This position would suit a team player with, excellent communication skills, who has experience of, or would like to work with our visitors.

Learning Volunteer
Learning at the National Memorial Arboretum is changing. With a new learning strategy in place, more children and young people visiting and lots of new resources and activities, we need volunteers to join the dedicated team, helping us to develop and move forward with its plans.  This position would suit a team player with excellent communication skills, who enjoys the chance to be out of doors, has a passion for working with children and young people of all ages, a desire to deliver learning in a variety of forms and enjoys exploring and leading others.

In addition, particular skills, expertise or interest in humanities, art & design, drama, citizenship, religious Education, English Literature & English Language or Special Educational Needs would be welcome.

Retail and catering volunteer
In addition to the above opportunities we are currently looking for people to help in our retail and catering departments. Retail experience is a bonus, but really we are looking for confident team players to help us.

Working weekends
For those of you who enjoy being outside, planting, pruning, doing ground’s maintenance, then we recommend our working weekends.  These are the first full weekend of each month and you are most welcome to come along.  It’s a great activity which the whole family can get involved in!

In return for their support the Arboretum provides it's volunteers with:

the opportunity to develop their knowledge, skills and experience

training and advice from senior volunteers and external bodies

uniform and a free parking pass

discount on selected items in both the gift shop and restaurant, while travel expenses are reimbursed.

Volunteers are also invited to attend special social events and receive a fortnightly newsletter.

For more information about our volunteer opportunities, contact our Volunteer Co-ordinator, Kim Riley on 01283 792 333 or kriley@thenma.org.uk
