Where our Nation remembers
CASE STUDIES
Many people raise funds for the Arboretum in a multitude of ways. Here are the stories of a few.
Sergeant Carl Grundy
|
Sergeant Carl Grundy is a Star Fundraiser for the Arboretum, having raised around £4000 with a range of cycling challenges. His twin brother was killed in Northern Ireland and Carl first became involved with the National Memorial Arboretum in 2003 when a tree was planted in dedication to him. |

Cyril Wagstaff
|
Cyril Wagstaff took part again in the Cape Argus Pick n Pay cycle race in South Africa in 2010. The race is the biggest in the world covering 70 miles (109km), starting and finishing in Cape Town. Over 35,000 riders started the race and 28,870 completed it. Cyril finished in 5 hours 28 minutes and came in 18,868th position, not bad for a 77 year-old! Cyril was sponsored for the race and raised £1,100 for the National Memorial Arboretum. |

Mile for a Life
|
On Saturday 24 July 2010, the Army Development and Selection Centre (ADSC) Lichfield exercised a mile for a life of every British Armed Forces Personnel who lost their lives in Afghanistan since 2001. A team of 20 comprising both military and civilian individuals ran or rowed 324 miles over 12 hours to raise funds and awareness. All proceeds were donated equally to the National Memorial Arboretum and the Poppy Appeal. The team rose to the challenge and raised over £2,500 in total. |
