Launch of Arboretum’s nationwide search for military family to be guests of honour at Armed Forces Day

28 March 2017

We have launched a nationwide search to find a military family to be guests of honour at our 2017 Armed Forces Day celebrations. The lucky family will be given a VIP experience throughout the day, and will be invited to play an integral role in the proceedings, including the all-important parade and wreath laying ceremony.

Nominations for families of current or former Armed Forces personnel for this special day out are being accepted.  To apply for this opportunity, entrants will need to submit a supporting statement or short video clip about the deserving family explaining why they should be chosen as VIP guests at Armed Forces Day.

Armed Forces Day will take place on Saturday 24 June this year. This flagship event at the Arboretum celebrates the work of the Armed Forces, and thousands of military and non-military families have attended in previous years. Plans are well advanced for a packed programme of activities that will appeal to all ages, which in previous years has featured flypasts, military drill displays, and fun physical activities, including zip lines, climbing walls, and archery.

The lucky family (up to 6 people) will help take the salute during the parade, be treated to a special lunch, receive tickets to access the Arboretum’s Landscapes of Life exhibition, and enjoy a private guided tour of the site.

To nominate a family, email a written statement to or submit your video entry of up to two minutes duration online at before entries close at midnight on 31 May. Please click here for full terms and conditions.
